Irish Eyes

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, sure ’tis like a morn in spring. In the lilt of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing, When Irish hearts are happy all the world seems bright and gay, And When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, sure, they steal your heart away. Chaucey Olcott and George Graff, Jr.

My Mother, brother and I used to sing this and many more while washing and drying dishes. Both sides of my family are irish one side catholic and one side protestant. Along with all the beliefs learned at my Mother’s knee of “little people” and St. Patrick’s great doings, my Father’s knee was more about celtic history, stone circles, druids and mostly nature’s beauty. This time of year here the plants all around start wearing green- works for me.

  1. I love the words to the song. There must be magic there as they make me happy just reading them. What a lovely memory of being with your family. Your love for them shines through your posts. They taught you such wonderful things. Are you in Ireland or have you been transplanted elsewhere?
I love the green of spring. Here in Autumn the fields still are yellow from the summer but the green hue is returning and so they look a bit like bleached hair growing out.

    • Both my parents families were from Ireland but both of my folks and myself were born in the us. I now live in the mountains of North Carolina. I’ve been to Ireland twice and loved it. We have been playing and singing along with irish cd’s all day. Just having fun.
