Reflections and Reality

My Mother used to say, “That is not in my gestalt.”  Whether or not this is a correct usage of the word, what  she meant was we perceive things using our own perception of what we expect to see. My example is: I was looking for a particular store and had driven up and down the road a number of times without finding it. On this strip of road is a  miniature  golf course that has life-size animals, waterfalls and beautiful flowers going up a hill.  Every time I drove past my eyes would go to this lovely view of the golf course. The address I was looking for was across the street from the golf course but I never saw it. We see what we expect to see or what we are drawn to. These days there is a lot written about how our thoughts create our reality. For myself I know that positive thoughts lead to positive thoughts and negative thoughts lead to negative thoughts.  Below are two of my favorite quotes linked to their source.

We become who we believe we are.   If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right. Henry Ford

“When Henry Ford decided to produce his famous V-8 motor, he chose to biuld an engine with the entire eight cylinders cast in one block, and instructed his engineers to produce a design for the engine. The design was placed on paper, but the engineers agreed, to a man, that it was simply impossible to cast an eight-cylinder engine-block in one piece.

Ford replied,”Produce it anyway.”   ― Henry Ford     The rest is history!

Do you see the woman or the man playing the saxophone?!
